Start 1 month before funding application deadline and complete by funding application deadline

This will take time. It is not just spelling but grammar, flow, sense, development of ideas, repetition and more. Automated spellcheck will not find all errors and so full proofreading is needed. Having someone else read your work will pick up more mistakes.

It is often useful to have someone non-medical read your application: they will pick up things which may not make sense to people outside your area of research.
